Mitty rallies late to capture NorCal title over Newark Memorial, 63-58

The Archbishop Mitty boys basketball team went on a late 10-0 run to thwart an upset bid by Newark Memorial and capture the Northern California Regional Division II championship, 53-48, Saturday night at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento. The Monarchs (31-3) will next attempt to defend their state title when they take on La Costa Canyon Friday night (8 pm), also at Power Balance Pavilion. [read more]

Gordon dominates as Mitty boys take down La Costa Canyon, 78-57

Junior Aaron Gordon showed why he is one of the most decorated prospects in the Bay Area hoops scene over the past decade or so by exploding for 33 points and 20 rebounds and leading Archbishop Mitty (31-3) to its second straight CIF Division II state title, 78-57, over La Costa Canyon Friday night at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento. Gordon made 14-of-23 field-goal attempts and went over 20 rebounds for the second year in a row in the state title game. La Costa Canyon finishes the season at 34-3. [read more]

Newark advances to NorCal final with 48-46 win over Serra

In Tuesday night’s CIF NorCal playoff game between the Serra Padres and Newark Memorial, the host Cougars emerged with a 48-46 victory. With the win, Newark Memorial advances to the NorCal final Saturday night at Power Balance Arena in Sacramento, where the Cougars will take on top-seeded Archbishop Mitty. The winner of that game will then face the champion of the SoCal tournament for the state title. Serra ends its season at 24-7. [read more]
